In 2016, The GARDENS  Pod Project began with a simple question: what if we could bring the community garden to the community itself?

Without reliable access to land, our advisory council got creative. Instead of one central garden, we imagined something more organic — small 4x4 raised planter beds, called Pods, scattered across South Etobicoke and hosted by local organizations. Humble in size, but mighty in purpose. We are also fortunate now to have a large, working, urban agricultural educational site at CF Sherway!

Every harvest found its way to neighbours who needed it most — through hyper local organizations and culinary kitchens, Food Share Community Markets (formerly known as Good Food Markets, and directly into the hands of people in our community.

What started as planters became partnerships. What started as produce became something harder to measure — trust, connection, and a shared sense of responsibility for one another.

Now, a decade later, The GARDENS is stepping into a new chapter. We are moving toward Not For Profit status, deepening our roots and building meaningful relationships with Humber Indigenous Education and Engagement, a  and an ever-growing circle of community partners who believe, like we do, that good food and good neighbours go hand in hand.
